At present, there are three main types of hot melt glue for edge banding in China according to different substrates: EVA, Polyamide and HMPU. However, due to the difference in price, general furniture manufacturers use EVA hot melt glue.
And this kind of hot melt glue has a high solid content, which can effectively avoid the occurrence of blistering, cracking, edge curling and deformation after bonding. Moreover, because the hot melt adhesive has a high moisture content, it will not affect the moisture content of the wood itself, which is also the main reason why the hot melt glue for edge banding is popular among manufacturers.
In addition to its own chemical composition, the density and viscosity of the hot melt adhesive are also factors that affect the bonding effect. Generally speaking, the higher the viscosity of the glue, the better the initial bond strength will be. However, due to the high viscosity, the smearing performance will be relatively poor.
Conversely, glue for edge banding with relatively low viscosity has better wetting performance. In actual use, it is still necessary to choose hot melt adhesive according to the situation of the board.
For example, when bonding particleboard, it is necessary to use a hot melt adhesive with a high viscosity. Because the fluidity of hot melt adhesive with high viscosity is relatively poor, it will not easily penetrate into the board of particleboard, resulting in insufficient surface glue and improving the actual bonding strength.
The density of hot-melt edge sealing adhesive currently used in the market is between 0.9-1.65g/cm3. The higher the density of the hot melt glue for edge banding, the more fillers inside, and the more fillers, the greater the viscosity strength.
Nowadays, many furniture, especially office furniture, wardrobes, cabinets, etc. are made of artificial boards. Furniture manufacturers will use hot melt glue for edge banding on the edge of the artificial board to seal the edge to ensure the beauty of the product and increase the weather resistance of the product.
However, many manufacturers are not particularly clear on what kind of board can be used with hot melt glue for edge banding and the requirements for the board when edge sealing.
Glue generally needs to penetrate into the substrate to form glue nails and achieve the due adhesive strength. Therefore, when using hot melt edge sealing adhesive to seal the edge, the selected substrate should not contain too much grease.
Because the oily substrate will reduce the affinity between the substrate and the glue, it is difficult for the glue to penetrate into the substrate, the strength is insufficient, and it is easy to fall off after a long time of bonding.
Before edge sealing, it is necessary to ensure that the temperature of the board and the edge sealing material is above 10 ℃. Especially in winter, the temperature of the environment is relatively low. Before using hot melt glue for edge banding, the temperature of the board and the edge sealing material must be properly raised, otherwise false sticking or degumming may occur.
The humidity of the substrate must be controlled between 8-12%. If the moisture content of the substrate is too high, the hot melt adhesive will be cured prematurely during the edge sealing process.
When the fireproof board is used as the edge sealing material, if there are residual substances on the back of the fireproof board, it will affect the bonding effect. Therefore, if a fireproof board is used to seal the edge, it should be pre-treated with all-purpose glue or an appropriate solvent in advance.
